In the recent past, there has been a rapid evolution of the cyber threat, in particular in the public administration, which has become a specific target for some types of dangerous attackers. Preventive measures aimed to prevent the success of an attack must be accompanied by effective detection tools, which can reduce the now dangerous times that are occurring since the primary attack occurred and the one in the consequences of which are discovered. In 2017 we expect more sophisticated attacks that will leverage on multiple dimensions: physical security, social and behavioral techniques, new generation malicious codes powered by artificial intelligence and therefore able to circumvent the most common countermeasures. Invisible attacks will increase: it is evident that many threats have the goal of continuing to operate invisibly, so it will be increasingly complex to identify these types of attacks for a long time. In addition, detection is made more complex by the number of nodes, the diversity of protocols, and interconnection patterns, and the phenomenon accentuated by the Cloud’s explosion, the Internet of Things.
