With the patronage of Italian Minister of Defense Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola and a key address by Italy’s Chief of Defense General Staff General Biagio Abrate, the 29th International Workshop on Global Security had as invited workshop speakers and participants like defense ministers, chiefs of defense general staff, other senior officials including political and military representatives to NATO, the EU, the UN, and representatives from industry.
More than 30 countries from Europe, North and South America, and Asia participated. Suggested themes for workshop discussions included the strategic implications of the current economic crisis, the “Arab Spring” in North Africa and the Middle East, as well as withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan.
As one of the main themes, there has been an emphasis again this year on the challenges of cyber security and information technologies.
The workshop has been presented in cooperation with the Centre for Defense Innovation of the Italian Defense General Staff (Centro Innovazione Difesa – CID) and the Italian Military Center for Strategic Studies (Centro Militare di Studi Strategici – CeMiSS).
